Ameresco Limited requires a Senior Energy Analyst to join its team in London. Ameresco is the largest independent energy services provider, delivering long-term customer value and environmental sustainability through energy efficiency measures, smart procurement, demand-side optimisation and alternative energy infrastructure solutions.  



Reporting to the Technical Director, the Senior Energy Analyst is responsible for working on assignments covering all aspects of industrial and commercial energy usage, energy savings, utility plant redevelopment and CO2 emission reduction. The Senior Energy Analyst will formulate, evaluate and prepare technical analysis and specification of industrial and commercial schemes during feasibility studies, scheme design and project implementation.


The Senior Energy Analyst will be expected to work in areas covering CHP, refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, boilers, compressed air and control schemes. The Senior Energy Analyst will assist in the trial and development of new products and technology.


The Senior Energy Analyst will have a good level of technical expertise, have a sound track record, and the role will involve complex technical duties and business support activities.


Main responsibilities of the role include:


  • Energy Analysis: 
    • modelling and analysing energy efficiency technologies, design strategies, and controls, related to end uses for retail, commercial and industrial site and buildings
    • collecting and analysing monitored site data on performance of systems 
  • Feasibility studies:
    • assisting in the assessment of existing system configuration and operation at client sites
    • compiling and analysing data
    • conceptual design of energy related projects
    • preparing final reports and presentations 
  • Scheme Design (Front End Design)

          Assisting in:

    • further defining of conceptual design from feasibility stage including on-site assessments as necessary
    • finalising scheme selection
    • developing heat and mass balance for the selected scheme
    • preparing full equipment list with performance/sizing/selection for key energy equipment, all major pipework lines, pumps (including pressure capabilities), heat exchangers including definition of control philosophy
    • preparing P & ID, layout and scheme drawings
    • producing an outline work package for contractors to provide pricing and assess accordingly
    • developing savings calculations and pricing to +/- 10% for project capital approval 
  • Project Implementation 
    • assisting in finalisation of project design, P & ID, equipment selection and layout
    • providing technical support to the project implementation team throughout the implementation period
    • attending HAZOP and technical review meetings as required
    • attending site to review commissioning and performance trials
  • Updating the company work monitoring systems
  • Assisting in improving operations, decreasing turnaround times, streamlining work processes, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Sales and business development
  • General office duties


As a Senior Energy Analyst, you must have:


  • a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering (Min 2:1)
  • working knowledge of technologies such as GE/GT CHP, steam, hot water, chillers, HVAC, BMS, LED Lighting, VSD, solar PV, wind turbines
  • substantive work experience in engineering/energy analysis
  • demonstrated experience of project management and design
  • strong analytical skills – to understand complex energy systems, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • proven experience with safety standards, mechanical and electrical systems development, engineering, and project regulations, practices, and codes
  • strong verbal, written, computer, technical communication and presentation skills
  • high proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Project
  • creativity and initiative – to innovate new projects, develop existing models and apply new analysis techniques
  • flexibility and geographical mobility – the role will be a 50:50 balance between hands on site work and office based analysis
  • strong teamworking skills
